Our newest creation and latest addition to our Etsy Shop, Bedtime Sleep Masks ! These are fun and addicting to create, easy and addicting to use :) Quality 100% cotton prints are lined with a slim batting for light-blocking properties. These first sleep masks have a plush, soft backing that cushions and pampers. I will be making some with satin backing soon so buyers can have a choice. I’m using soft lingerie elastic for a comfy fit. Read the rest of this entry

Threads Magazine wrote me :)

Threads Magazine wrote me :)

I just want to share a little enthusiasm. Maybe it will give your flagging momentum a boost. Threads Magazine wrote me. Out of the blue. In the middle of a mediocre work week. Here’s the scenario…

You’re a Crafter. You craft. Not (just) because you like to, but because it is like breathing to do it. And we all know it’s best to keep breathing. So you keep at it. Some days more than others. Your clothes have dangling threads from sewing, your fingers are tinted from tie-dye or paints. You spend money equally on food and craft supplies.

Sewing and Kids ~Library How-To Fair

Sewing and Kids ~Library How-To Fair

I spent a hectic but rewarding afternoon at the Library’s “How To Fair”. Various business folk participated with booths of information and make-n-take crafts in the Library children’s department. Ages ranged from K to 5th grade, plus their younger toddler siblings. There was a puppet show, friendship bracelets, pet care info, planting seedlings, cake decorating, etc. I set up a table with a sewing display and assisted older kids sewing buttons onto a cloth quilted bookmark. Younger ones glued together (their fingers and-) a paper patchwork quilt onto a bed illustration my son made. A fun time was had by all. It was slightly organized chaos. ~And unusually loud for a Library !
I love working with kids. I enjoy sewing and kids learning to sew.  It’s fun to see them master a task. Their accomplishment brings such a satisfied smile of confidence and new discovery ! They also love to talk. Sewing Bees always inspire good conversations.

Let me share some of the priceless queries of the day:

Are buttons washable ? (Yes, similar to the buttons on your shirt.) Read the rest of this entry

Once Upon a Time… Part 1

Once Upon a Time… Part 1

Once upon a time, there was a girl, a guy and a sewing machine…

The house I feel I “grew up in” is a wonderful old farmhouse that was one of the first built on the block in 1904. It is a lovely two-story Victorian with a huge avocado tree just outside my bedroom (I picked them from the window !).  My room had a nice sized walk-in closet, tall ceilings and lots of windows. In the center of the room, looking out front, there is a bay window housing a large window seat with lots of storage space. In the hallway there is a built-in set of drawers and cabinets that held a bazillion things, including a secret drawer :) I adored the house and it’s grounds. This property is in Southern California, where it’s warm year ’round. Out back, my Father built lovely walk-in aviaries housing a variety of button quail, bob whites, parakeets, finches and more. They were built along the back grapevine/hedge next to the barn. Assorted bird-raising paraphernalia were stored in the tack room of the barn. Neighborhood kids liked to visit and watch the birds.
